How WhatsApp Billing Works

Pay-as-you-go

There is no fixed monthly subscription.

Instead, you only pay based on how much you use WhatsApp.

👉 Every time you send messages or start conversations, a small cost is added to your account.

How costs are calculated

The cost of each conversation depends on:

  • Conversation type (Marketing -Utility-Authentication)
  • The recipient’s country

Cost accumulation

Charges are not deducted instantly from your card.

Instead:

  • Your usage is tracked
  • Costs are added up over time

Think of it like a running total that keeps increasing as you send messages.

Automatic charges (Payment Threshold)

Meta sets a payment threshold (for example: $20).

When your total usage reaches this amount:

  • Your payment method is automatically charged

📊 Example 1

  • Your threshold = $20
  • You send messages worth $5 → no charge yet
  • You continue using → total reaches $20

👉 Your card is charged $20 automatically

📊 Example 2

  • Your threshold = $20
  • Your usage reaches $45

👉 You’ll be charged:

  • $20 (first threshold)
  • $20 (second threshold)
  • Remaining $5 will continue accumulating

Monthly billing

If your usage does not reach the threshold:

  • The remaining balance is charged at the end of the billing cycle (monthly)

📊 Example 3

  • Your threshold = $20
  • Your usage = $8 only

👉 You will not be charged immediately
👉 At the end of the month, your card will be charged $8

Track Your Payments

After adding your payment method, you can track all your billing activity from the Payment activity tab.

This is where you can monitor everything related to your payments.

What you can do in Payment Activity

  • View Transactions
See all charges and payments, including successful and failed transactions
  • Track Spend
Monitor how your WhatsApp usage costs are accumulating over time
  • Review Billing Activity
Understand when and why charges were applied to your account

Add Tax Information (For Registered Businesses)

If you are a VAT-registered business, it’s recommended to add your tax information to avoid additional charges.

When are taxes applied?

When you use WhatsApp Business Platform, Meta generates invoices based on your usage.

Depending on your tax status:

  • If you don’t provide tax information
→ VAT may be automatically added to your charges
  • If you provide valid tax information (TRN & UIN)
→ VAT may not be added, and you handle taxes according to your local regulations

Why should you add tax information?

Adding your tax details allows Meta Platforms to:

  • Verify that you are a registered taxpayer
  • Issue accurate invoices with your business details
  • Avoid adding VAT to your charges (if applicable)

How to add tax information

You can add your tax info from the Payment activity tab.

Step 1: Open Tax Info

  • Go to Payment activity
  • Click Provide tax info

Step 2: Enter your business details

In the pop-up, fill in:

  • Business name
Your legal business name (or your personal name if not registered)
  • Business address
Your official address (or personal address if not a company)

Step 3: Enter tax details

  • Tax Registration Number (TRN)
  • Unique Identification Number (UIN)

You must provide both for verification.

Step 4: Select business purpose

Choose:

  • Yes → if you are using WhatsApp Business for business purposes
  • No → if not

Step 5: (Optional) Add PO number

  • Used for internal tracking (optional)
